Weekly broadcast bulletin

It appears that we have tended to add a new post every Sunday night....so I guess we are a day late this week. The past week was a little hectic. Some happenings in our house included:

-Shawn was in San Francisco for work Monday-Thursday and will be gone again this week in North Carolina from Wednesday-Friday. Let's just say that mergers are not fun for HR folks - enough said.

-Logan is in his last week of pre-school. Amazing how 9 months have flown past. Logan is bummed it is the last week and constantly reminds us that he wishes preschool was everyday. However, he is also excited that his "big friends" from elementary school will soon be back at day care for the summer.

-Logan played his first official round of golf on Saturday with his buddy Trent. They just finished 3 weeks of classes and Trent's Dad and I promised the boys we would take them for a round. Of course we couldn't predict that the weather would be about 40 degres with a 15mph wind. The boys still had a blast!

-Carter is once again "regular." Not to be confused with unleaded. TMI. I will move on to the next bullet.

-Sara and I enjoyed a Mother's Day without kids. Shawn's mom took care of the boys from 10am-7pm so we could enjoy some alone time....quiet time. We went to the health club, got some shopping done, enjoyed a movie, and went to out to dinner. We know, really exciting stuff - but when your typical meal out is the pizza buffett, McDonalds or Perkins........anywhere is a treat.

In addition, this past weekend was full of the usual stuff: lots of trips to the park, a birthday party, church, swimming at the club, dinner at Even and Sabrina's, yardwork, laundry, rollerblading, the zoo - oh my....no wonder I am exhausted today! 4 more days to a long weekend - ENJOY!

Green Thumbs

This post is dedicated to Grandpa Roger....

The gardens they are a bloomin! I love this time of year, it is so much fun to watch our perennial gardens burst from the earth and reach to heaven; not to mention the crab apple trees bloom with all their white flowers....and the grass is never thicker and greener than in spring - unless your addiction to Starbucks can only be matched by your addiction to your sprinkler system.

This weekend all the family put on their garden gloves and planted the annual vegetable garden. Due to the recession, Sara made sure we added some additional items this year. This year's Mayfield Produce Department will be supplying: green beans, snap peas, strawberries, (4) cucumber plants, (3) types of tomatoes (Roma, Cherry, and Big Burthas - we can only imagine what those will look like), and cantaloupe.

Another fun spring project that we have been working out is clearing an area in the woods behind our house to build a fire pit. Last weekend Shawn went Lumberjack with the chainsaw and cleared out some rotted birch....and lots of buck thorn.
We keep the blog updated with produce updates as the summer moves along.....you never know when we will have another cherry tomato plant that grows to our gutters and produces 400+ tomatoes.

Tiger Woods II

Logan started his spring golf league this morning. We bought him a set of clubs 2 summers ago and he has gone to the driving range on several locations, but we thought it would be good to have someone besides dad try to teach him the rules.

The coach that is leading his class did a nice job. This week Logan learned
  • Your driver is not a weapon to hit the person next to you with
  • It is not appropriate to play tag on the golf course or scream when someone else is hitting

  • The sand traps are not made for building sand castles

  • Water holes do not require swimsuits or flotation device

....and that was only the first 10 minutes - well worth the $30. After this exhaustive review of golf etiquette, the kids got out their putters and learned how to address the ball, read the green, and measure how hard they had to hit the ball to get it in the hole.

Here's some pics....
