Thoughts from 40,000 feet...

for some reason this post got stuck in my draft folder - posting now

------------------------------------------------------------------------

Warning - hit delete now....otherwise you may be subject to random thoughts of a tired business traveler trying to burn time while on another cross-country flight home from San Francisco.

Geometry 101: fact - the shortest distance between (2) points is a straight line. Reality - sometimes the longer route is more beneficial. Case in point, this week I had to travel to San Francisco for work. Fact - direct Delta flight was $1300. Reality - by connecting through Denver, than Salt Lake City, I could get there for $475. Why would I waste extra time on planes - maybe it is a left over symptom from being hit by lightening, but frequent flyer programs are very enticing. The airlines have enslaved their frequent customers with first class upgrades, special boarding lanes, mileage bonuses, no baggage fees, alcohol, etc. In short, extra flight time is worth the 6500 miles you get as a Platinum Member flying RT to SF in First Class.

Blessed to be blessed: Sara and I were talking in church this weekend about how blessed we are. The last couple of weeks Hosanna has incorporated various elements into worship that make you realize the struggles everyday people face. Last Sunday Teen Challenge joined us for worship and we heard a testimony of a young lady who as a teenager was carjacked with her boyfriend. I'll save you the details, but the hostage event that ensued started a spiral into self destruction - only through Jesus was she released. Impactful to hear how an ordinary person enjoying a fast food meal has her life so quickly flipped upside down. A couple of weeks before we incorporated "cardboard testimonies" into worship - this is not a new concept (attached is a YouTube clip from another church to five you a visual picture). Once again, amazing to see the demons ordinary people are facing and how they have been released through the church. Too many people claim church is irrelevant. I agree may churches are lost and confused - but God is not irrelevant...change your church if your church is not changing you. Sara made the comment on how she loves living in Lakeville - Hosanna is one of the numerous blessings in this community.
