Some kids are lucky - and others are INCREDIBLY lucky!
You may recall that back in December Carter dropped his name in the Mall of America "America's Biggest Christmas Stocking" drawing. Who knows how many people submitted their names - probably thousands based on daily traffic at the MOA....and if you recall from our previous post our little Carter Boy won. Well the magic rubbed off on Logan.
Last night Lake Marion Elementary had their PTO BINGO fundraiser. New this year, each class assembled baskets of donated items - they were amazing. There were BBQ baskets, golf baskets, game baskets, spa baskets, shopping baskets, etc. Most probably had over $300 of new/donated items from families in the school. Well turnout was amazing - around 400 families - most likely the turnout was related to the sad financial situation of our schools as everyone is trying to save our school programs such as art and band which have been cut. Anyways, not only did we win one of the games of BINGO, Logan won the "family game night basket!" We now have probably 10 new DVDS, over a dozen board games, Wii games, popcorn and pop, etc. When they called Logan's name the look on his face was priceless. They lifted him up on the stage in front of all the kids as his friends were screaming his name. Not sure how he fell asleep last night.
Of course Carter thinks he won the basket as we bought about 20 tickets (put Logan's name on all of them) and gave some to each of the boys to place in the basket of their choice.

All about Logan.....
Some quick updates on our oldest little man:
Ears:
-After weeks of Logan responding "what," "what", "what?....and noticing the volume on the TV has been slowly getting louder and louder, we figured his tubes must have fallen out again and he is having hearing problems. Hence we visited the ENT this week. Not surprising his ears are full of fluid again and his sinus infection still has not gone away. Solution = another round of antibiotics (stronger this time) and chew lots of gum. If the fluid is still there in 4 weeks we will schedule his third round of tubes - like father like son!
Spring Parent-Teacher Conference: Good and Bad

On the positive side:
- Logan is excelling in math and is already testing beyond the first grade level
- He is very social and makes friends easily; loves going to school
- He completes all his assignments on time
- Has made significant progress in reading and is now slightly past the 1st grade norm for mid-year
Areas of opportunity:
- Effort - for Logan it is more about getting things done than quality. Example - a couple of weeks ago we fought him and fought him on his homework (make a Groundhog's Day box). His was cr*@. Of course he came home from school upset b/c he thought his box was the worst in the class - so we had a long conversation that without effort that is what happens.
- Writing - has trouble sound spelling words - misses sounds/sections of words. This may be due to his hearing issues and the years of speech therapy.
- Listening - waiting his turn. This came as a surprise as most people say he is very well mannered. According to the teacher he gets so excited to share that he just blurts things out instead of waiting his turn. Ugh! This was kind of a surprise as she mentioned that some days she needs to remind him 10 times to raise his hand.
Outside of that the BIG man is doing well - our next post will be on the LITTLE man who is turning 4 soon. FYI - Logan's new favorite activity is to go to Lakeville South sporting events. Last night we went to the North/South basketball Sections where South trounced North - Logan was jumping and screaming the whole game. He was a little confused why all the students were dressed in TOGAs!
