Logan "the boxer" Mayfield

And not to be outdone - his brother "the surfing hippie" Carter
Our fun story of the weekend....Sara brought Carter to the health club and put him in the kids area while she worked out. I will admit, the kids area is the size of a pre-school complete with their own half court basketball court, climbing area, computer area, toy area and nursery. When she went to pick him up she walked through the entire place and could not find him - there were only 20 kids in the kids area at the time which is unusual as sometimes there are 100+. She asked the front desk worker if she had seen him and they started searching. There was no need to panic that he escaped as their security is pretty amazing, but it seemed a little odd. Where could he have gone? After a couple of minutes they found him sleeping in the plastic caterpillar. He said he got tired since he hadn't had a nap and went to sleep. I guess the other kids trampling over him didn't bother him.

The Mayfield News Flash

Here is a quick synopsis of "happenings" in the Mayfield household the past week:

1. Logan
This morning Logan lost his 3rd tooth (one of his upper teeth). He is starting to look like a banged-up boxer with all the holes in his mouth. Logan's social life continues to keep us busy. Starting last weekend, he has (4) birthday parties in three weekends - (2) of them are the same date/time so he has been struggling with which one to attend. Logan also started spring soccer this Monday night. Shawn is coaching with another Dad from the fall league so several of the boys have played together before. Hopefully the weather this spring will continue to be amazing and there won't be any games played in the snow like last October. Logan has come a long way the past couple of weeks with his reading - his teacher has been sending home positive notes that he seems to be more focused and is trying harder (good signs)! Grandpa far-far will be glad to know that Logan has been hitting the links already this spring and has registered for football this summer.

2. Carter
Has been busy playing with his new birthday toys. He loves his golf set, matchbox cars, sandbox, airplane gun, etc. Carter joined Logan and Shawn at the driving range 2 weeks ago; besides holding the clubs backwards sometimes, he did pretty well….he even hit one 50 yrds! All the seniors smiled when they saw this little 3 yr old walking around with his golf bag and clubs. He is definitely 3 going on 6!

3. Shawn
Was in SF this week and got to attend the Oakland A's / New York Yankees game in one of the executive suites at the stadium…all the hot dogs and beer your heart and cholesterol can handle.

4. Sara
With Shawn being gone Sara has been busy after work getting the kids to soccer practice, church activities, birthday parties, etc. She also volunteered in Logan's classroom this week reading books and helping out. She had a parent/teacher conference with Logan's teacher and received some positive feedback that was encouraging.

That's the Mayfield News Flash for this week - we will try to find time this weekend to upload some pics.

Happy 3rd Birthday Carter Boy

Carter Boy celebrated his 3rd birthday yesterday (April 10).

He had a fun filled day. We started at the Mall of America going on rides with Logan and his friend. Carter loves the roller coasters! In the evening we had some friends, neighbor kids, and Grandma Closer over for pizza and cake. It was a nice evening so we ate outside and the kids ran around like crazy for a couple of hours. We finished the night with a bon-fire in the fire pit - Carter loves his s'mores!

This afternoon we are heading to Clearly Lake to hit some golf balls and go roller-blading/biking around the lake. Spring is in full bloom!

If you click on the pictures they will expand - notice Carter's cake reads "Happy Birthday Carter Boy." He wanted it that way!

Miscellanious Pictures

Carter mastered riding his bike about 2 weeks before his 3rd birthday.

Logan lost his second tooth on April 9. It has been "wiggly" for about a month and he was finally brave enough for mom to give it a yank.

Happy Easter

The kids had a fabulous Easter collecting "mounds" of candy. The entire family went to Rainbow Foods for their Easter egg hunt - somehow this has become a tradition in our house. The kids run up and down the aisles collecting eggs. Carter got a "1st place" egg and picked a plastic shopping cart full of food as his prize. Later on Saturday, Logan joined his cousins and traveled to Duluth for 24 hours of fun with grandma far-far. We missed him on Easter, but we were scheduled to volunteer at church from 2:15-6:30pm on Saturday and 6:30-10am on Sunday and figured he would have more fun running around with his cousins. Logan said the highlight of the trip was watching Indian Jones in the car and having to call 911 to get out of the park after uncle Leon and the family got locked in after the park closed - only Leon :-) While Logan was gone, Carter participated/volunteered at (2) Easter egg hunts at Hosanna! They had 30,000 eggs (15,000 after both Saturday services) - AMAZING! We love being at Hosanna! for Easter as it is magical - this year they had about 12,000 people attend services and the environment was electric. Sunday pm was spent together at Grandma-closers for a yummy turkey dinner.
The highlight of Shawn's week was getting his new dishwasher installed. Shawn and our neighbor spent about 2.5 hours on Sunday but we got it in the hole with no problem. Next project - our new range hood arrived - hopefully this will be easier to install. How tough can a couple of electrical wires and venting be :-)

Norman:
The sad news in our house is that we had to put Norman to sleep last night. He had gone down hill fast this week and has not been eating. He had lost a lot of weight and was just lying around in various corners of the house. We knew something was wrong and the dr found a cancer tumor the size of a racquetball in his stomach. More than likely this had been growing for some time. Carter doesn't really understand, but Logan has been very emotional. Unfortunately we forgot to take one last picture of him with Logan - we found one that is a couple of years old and Logan has this on his desk. Norman was a FABULOUS cat and lived a great life at 16 years of age - it still makes us smile remembering when we got him from the Humane Society at 6 yrs old when he was all greasy and overweight…they had named him "Stevie Ray" but we thought Norman fit better.

Pictures from Dad's Day

"5 Little Bowlers." Check on Chase's (front row left) bowling ball - you can tell the kid is serious about bowling! I love Carter's styling shoes.

Carter and his "smoker" (technical term for nebulizer) - he is still coughing but it is starting to loosen up.

***For our out of town bloggers - notice the shorts! It has been in the mid-70s all week and yesterday was 81!***

Pinch me....I must be dreaming!

After spending a difficult week of work golfing in Scottsdale, AZ last week (sarcasm), Shawn returned to MN for a week of 75+ degree days….amazing! The family has been out bouncing around in our shorts biking, raking, playing at the park, etc. the past 5 days - perfect timing for spring break. Everyone is happier when it is warm and we can be outside. We have already raked the yard, power-washed the patio furniture, cleaned up the sandbox…and tonight we will enjoy our first outdoor BBQ on the patio for 2010. I need to stop - we all know April will bring a blizzard!

This week has been a little crazy in our house as nothing seems to go right:

1. Dishwasher - we are replacing all of our appliances for some stainless steel, more energy efficient, ones. Of course, upon delivery we learned our dishwasher will not fit. The original dishwasher was placed on top of the original linoleum. When they updated the kitchen with hardwood floors they only went up to the cabinets - hence the hole the new dishwasher needs to fit in is too small, not sure if we can get the old one out. This might be a rainy day weekend project!

2. Dry cleaning - mysteriously disappeared. I dropped it off on Monday and when I went to pick it up they can't find it. UGH! Just another thing. Guess I will need to work from home; or go to the office with no pants! Luckily I don't travel for 3 weeks.

3. Carter Boy (that is what he calls himself) - we brought him to the Dr on Tuesday as we thought he had his 3rd case of pneumonia this winter. After examining him, the Dr said he has asthma - not pneumonia. He has been on a nebulizer (he calls it the smoker) and is doing much better - we will upload pics tomorrow. He is still coughing, but it is not the dry asthma hack. When we picked him up from daycare on Tuesday you could tell something was wrong as his color was ash and he was struggling with his breathing. He is very excited for his birthday. We are having a family night out at Chuck-E-Cheese this weekend and then some friends are coming over for cake on his birthday.

Logan has been enjoying spring break bouncing between play dates, Grandma closers, and relaxation. Sara was off on Monday and Shawn is off tomorrow (Friday). Tomorrow we are going bowling with one of Logan's friends - he is in a bowling league and has his own ball/shoes - I think Logan may be schooled!

Happy Easter to All! Logan has been busy inviting friends to Hosanna! for services and we invite any and all to join us for the celebration!
