Chicken legs, Brett Favre, Sweat and Tears

You know your son is a fanatic Viking fan when he is locked to the TV for 4 hours straight watching the Vikings game last weekend, then when it is all over he breaks down crying hysterically because the Vikings lost and they "won't go to the trophy game and make lots of money." Sara tried to explain in her clam voice that the Vikings make plenty of money....Dad was less sympathetic and said if you are going to watch the Vikings you have to be prepared for them to lose - it happens every year!

(notice Carter's hair pre-hair cut....and post hair cut below) It was getting a little out of control.

Logan had his Kindergarten Bible Cermony at Hosanna! on Saturday morning. It was a beautiful ceremony with music by the Kindergarten worship team (they are incredible), some videos and short stories, and a blessing for all the kids with their new Bibles. Hosanna! supplies a fabulous kids Bible that breaks done scripture into daily readings.

Outside of that, it was another normal week in the Mayfield house with a trip to the ski hill, some play dates with friends, Shawn traveling for 2 days to Philadelphia, and hours of wrestling. Carter has found a new hobby - puzzles! Daycare said he sat at the table for hours working on puzzle after puzzle....tonight we were at some friends and he did 25-piece puzzles for about 90 minutes. Knock on wood....everyone is healthy at our house! Hopefully it will stay that way till we get back from Disney World!

The joys of traveling for work!!!

"Due to WEATHER / LOW CEILINGS, there is a Traffic Management Program in effect for traffic arriving San Francisco International Airport, San Francisco, CA (SFO). This is causing some arriving flights to be delayed an average of 3 hours and 19 minutes. To see if you may be affected, select your departure airport and check "Delays by Destination."

First, MLK is suppose to be a bank holiday. Second, when flying on holidays there is an unwritten rule that your flight should be on time. Right! The above message confirms why I am writing this from the airport where I have sat since 4pm. I was suppose to leave at 5:20pm and now will leave around 9pm. UGH!!!! Don't even ask what time I get to SF now.

Quick Update on Logan's 6-Year Check Up: All his motors, belts and whistles got the green light. Only exception is his hearing. Once again he failed his hearing check on the left side. Since he has never passed a hearing test, they have referred him to an Audiologist for further testing. In short there will probably be 2 outcomes:

1. He has permanent hearing loss in his left ear but has learned to compensate for it with his right.

2. He has permanent hearing loss in his left ear and will need some type of intervention (i.e. aid) to compensate.

He seems to hear fine to us - his teacher has also been monitoring him and hasn't noticed anything. I think he has learned to compensate for any hearing loss. Kind of odd that it is an issue now. He failed his first hearing test at the hospital when he was born and has had tubes 2x....but no one ever seemed concerned till now.

Mayfield weekly update -

Lets see - where did we leave off.....Since our last post here is the news in our house:

24 Hour Flu
Last Saturday Logan woke us up with that wrenching sound. It is amazing how quickly you can move at 6am when it involves puke. After about 6 hours laying on the couch and sharing his past meals with us, he jumped up and said he was ready to play outside. Kids recover so much faster than adults. Next, Shawn woke up Monday with stomach pains...not to be outdone - Carter decided to puke at daycare Monday afternoon, as well as in Shawn's car, then Sara woke up Tuesday morning sick. On a positive note, we all recovered in about 24 hours.

"Wiggly Tooth"
Logan is really excited as he has his first wiggly tooth on the front bottom. He is convinced the tooth fairy gives $5 per tooth - inflation is a KILLER!

Take it Outdoors!
MN has been in the 30s all week and we have been taking advantage of it everyday! This weekend we have been running outside, went skiing twice, took the boys sledding up at church, and enjoyed catching up on our vitamin D deficiency!

Vikings WAMP the Cowboys
Not sure how our house became a home of crazed football fans. Sometime this spring Logan got on a football kick from the neighbor boys and the bus crowd. Now he runs around in his Vikings hat, jersey (69 - Allen), and carrying his football. Yesterday he sat glued to the screen for the entire game. He is already talking about registering this fall - they can start playing flag football in 1st grade.

Spanish
We registered Logan for after school Spanish classes starting this Thursday. He doesn't get too excited about most of the stuff that comes home in his backpack everyday, but he really wanted to do Spanish - we are excited as both Sara and I really want to raise international children that love to travel and live abroad.

Today we are headed to Logan's 6 year checkup and then to the zoo with the boys (no school or work for MLK). Tonight Shawn flys back to SFO until Thursday evening. Only a couple more weeks till vacation - we decided to book a week at Walt Disney World. The boys are soooo EXCITED. We are staying in a condo at the Animal Kingdom so Carter will be able to watch the animals none stop. Hopefully the weather and our health will be good. Enjoy your week!

Pictures, Pictures, Pictures

"Grandma Closer"gave us one night with no kids for our Christmas present - here are some pics of their sleepover with grandma.

Here are some more pics from the Mayfield Family Christmas.

Quick post -

1. Where there once was dozens, now there are none! Yes, no mice to report since the exterminator came to visit our house. I didn't think he really did anything except walk around and poke in the insulation, but the bait he left must have tasted good to the "Alpha Male" who is now enjoying peace and tranquility in mice heaven.

2. The CDC has quarantined our house! After 10 days of good health, Logan came down with strep on Saturday. We thought he had a sinus infection as his nose was running a lot. We decided to take him in when he spiked a fever, and they found strep (AGAIN!). The new Mayfield Family tally:

November 15-Jan3:
(4) cases of strep
(1) case of pneumonia
(1) case of hand, foot, mouth

They put him on z-pack and immediately he was feeling better. We are concerned about how many anti-biotics he has been on the past 2 months. Luckily he has his 6-year check up in 2 weeks. I think he needs a good physical!

3. Bye-bye diapers! Carter is now potty trained. After about 2 days of limited accidents Carter has been doing great the past 10 days. He has even been dry through the night 2x - we keep this very quiet as Logan still has issues at night. Another item to discuss at the physical.

That is all the fun in our house. This is the time of year we start dreaming of warmer climates and escaping from this frozen tundra. Shawn is lucky enough to be in NC and CA the next 2 weeks for work, but we are researching a February family vacation south to get a good dose of Vitamin D. Our skin is so dry we look like alligators! Hope you are all doing well.....
